Triple J Hottest 100 Predictions

January 24, 2019

A crescendo is building to the biggest day in the calendar for Aussie music – the Triple J Hottest 100 Countdown. Now that votes have officially closed, we’ve crunched the numbers to work out who is going to take out the top 5 spots for 2018. Check out our top picks below, plus where you can catch a few of the acts live in the flesh this year.

1. Ocean Alley – Confidence

Hailing from Sydney’s Northern Beaches, Ocean Alley absolutely smashed 2018 with their album, Confidence. We reckon the title track is poised to take out the top spot in this year’s countdown. Their upcoming is sure to be celebratory lap of Aus – check out details at the jump.

2. Childish Gambino – This Is America

There’s no doubt that one of the biggest music-quasi-political moments of 2018 was when Childish dropped his headline grabbing ‘This Is America’. The confronting track quickly became a hit and solidified his musical force. Despite cancelling his Aussie tour late year, we reckon punters will still back him.

3. Amy Shark – I Said Hi

From dark horse to front runner, Amy Shark has been on the up and up since her breakout track, ‘Adore’, took home second place in the Hottest 100 of 2016. Since then, Amy’s dropped her debut album, and with it, the absolute banger ‘I Said Hi’. You can catch her on the road for her biggest tour to date – deets below:

4. Ruby Fields – Dinosaurs

Now if there was a dark horse this year, it would have to be Triple J Unearthed breakout star, Ruby Fields. The Sydney-based teenager has been one to watch over the past year, dropping absolute tracks like ‘P Plates’ and ‘I Want’. Her latest track, ‘Dinosaurs’, is an emotional track that ends with one hell of a head banging finale. Check her play this one live at Laneway Festival next month.

5. FISHER – Losing It

Another favourite who has rocketed out of nowhere is Aussie electro-producer, FISHER. His indisputable banger, ‘Losing It’, landed himself noms for both an ARIA and a freakin’ Grammy. FISHER just wrapped up a festival tour over the New Year, but we’re sure he’ll be back on tour in no time.

Who do you think will crack the top 5? Be sure to tune into the Hottest 100 this Sunday on Triple J to find out.
