Thanks to the music gods, Falls Festival has dropped a smashing line up for us to all have a boogie to over NYE. With headliners Halsey (playing her only AUS show!), Vampire Weekend and Disclosure set to tear up the stage, there is really no excuse to pass on the party. Not only is Falls Festival one of the biggest festivals over summer, but the lineup is also packed with acts ranging from rock, pop, and dance music – something for every music aficionado!
What else can we look forward to? Icelandic indie band Of Monsters and Men will be playing their new album, up-and-comer Lewis Capaldi, and the queen herself Banks are definite must-see acts this year. With so many choices and quality acts ready to rock your world, we’ve developed our list of where to be depending on what mood you’re in.
“I just want to have a goddamn dance”
We know the feels, maybe you’ve had a fight with a friend or maybe you just realised you forgot your gumboots and its pouring with rain. Make Meredith and Cristina proud and dance it out.
Best act: PNAU
Who is better to have a mad dance party with than PNAU? These electric juggernauts have had top dance hits pumping across nightclubs all around the world for over a decade now. There are just too many hits to name, but make sure you get your groove on to ‘Chameleon’ and you’ll forget all your worries.
“I’m looking for my New Year’s Eve kiss”
We get it – NYE can be a stressful time for the forever alone. While everyone is enjoying a sweet romance around you, sometimes you can just feel a little bit left out. Avoid the sadness and line up your festival make out well in advance of that clock ticking over to 2020.
Best act: #1 Dads
One of Tom Iansek’s beautiful creations, #1 Dads haven’t been touring since 2015 to focus their energy on Big Scary, so be sure to get there for their surprise return before they disappear again. One of the most beautiful albums of 2014, About Face, is sure to get those heartstrings pulling you towards a suitable bachelor/bachelorette. Get the chapstick out.
“I’m here with all my friends and I’m ready to scream some lyrics”
You deserve it. It’s no easy feat to get a bunch of pals together for one festival, get your accommodation sorted, prepare your food, and remember to invite at least one person who can drive. Sometimes you all just need to come together and butcher a song with your tone-deaf singing.
Best act: Vampire Weekend
No competition here, there is nothing that brings people together more than the opening bars of ‘A-Punk’. There’s something about the jaunty bop that makes you believe you know all the lyrics of a song that you most certainly do not know the words too. Get your pals around, get your groove on, and keep those good vibes going.
“OMG I am just so tired I want to go home”
There is a certain kind of commitment that goes with any multiple-day festival. Spending all your time drinking and dancing takes a lot of energy out of you and sleeping in a cheap tent on a yoga mat doesn’t exactly make you a ball of sunshine in the morning. We’ve got the cure though.
Best act: Of Monsters and Men
Sit back, relax, and enjoy a peaceful set from the Icelandic sweethearts that have audiences globally eating out of the palm of their hand. The chill vibes you soak up from this act will keep you going for at least a couple more hours (and maybe swap beer for water while you enjoy the melodic tunes).
