As the dust settles on new year’s celebrations and we slowly recover from the night that once was, we look towards 2018 with wide-eyed optimism and hope captured in the form of fragile resolutions. Breaking new year’s resolutions is as sacred a tradition as counting down to midnight itself, but this year we’re here to make sure you keep them this time around. We’ve even thought up a few to help get you started. You’re welcome.
Resolution 1: Fall in love with a new artist
If the prospect of finding your true love in 2018 seems a little unrealistic, then perhaps you could settle for falling in love with your new favourite artist? We think you’ll dig Mallrat. This Brissy teen has been absolutely kicking goals since dominating Triple J Unearthed in 2016. Her sound straddles indie-electro and R&B, making her a rising star in the Aussie festival scene. You can check her play The Evelyn Hotel in Melbourne in January. Crash at our place after.
Resolution 2: Nail your air-guitar skills
Looking to rock out in 2018? Then look no further than Aussie rock favourites Gang of Youths. These guys had a mammoth 2017, and it looks like things won’t be slowing down this year, with their latest release Go Farther in Lightness sure to be peppered throughout Triple J’s Hot 100. If you didn’t check out their last tour, no sweat, you can catch the ol’ gang when they play a string of festivals this summer.
Resolution 3: Dance like no one’s watching
It’s no secret that the resolution to ‘exercise more’ is broken by us with even the best of intentions as we enter the new year. The trick to keeping it? Swap the gym for the dance floor and break a sweat to the sweet sounds of Kllo and LDRU in 2018. These two Aussie acts are both killing it in their own way. You can see for yourself when they take to the stage at Laneway Festival and Sydney City Limits respectively. If you need a place to stay, you’re always welcome at ours.
Resolution 4: Get in touch with your sensitive side
Make this the year that you reconnect with yourself. And who better to help you on this journey of self-discovery than Aussie folk siblings Angus & Julia Stone. If there’s one thing this brother and sister duo knows best, it’s how to write a song that encapsulates all the feels, and their latest album Snow is packed full of them. The pair have just added a Newcastle stop to their Aussie tour this May. Need a place to stay? We’ve got you covered.
Resolution 5: Give into guilty pleasures
Look, what would life be without a little guilty pleasure every now and then? Make 2018 the year you stop hating on yourself for giving into your basic human needs. And no one – we mean no one – screams guilty pleasure more than Australia’s favourite muso-meme, Shannon Noll. We can’t count the number of times we’ve belted out the chorus of ‘What About Me’ at our local just before close. Iconic. You can catch him play Oxford Art, just a stone’s throw away from our place.
No matter what resolution you choose or where it takes you, we’re with you every step of the way with our special $1 breakfast offer when you crash at ours. Check it out here.
