It’s Official: Melbourne is the Live Music Capital of the WORLD

April 13, 2018

In case you needed more of a reason to hit up Melbourne, Live Music Census has just crowned the city not only the live music capital of Australia, but of the WORLD. Yes, you heard that correctly, the WORLD! Better luck next time, Sydney…

The study, conducted by Music Victoria, found that Melbourne has one live music venue for every 9,503 residents, which is the highest in the world on a per-capita basis. No wonder why all the hottest acts sell-out Melbourne when they’re down under…

Breaking it down, this means that on an average Saturday night, Melbourne music venues host up to 112,000 patrons, with a total of 73,605 gigs recorded in 2017 alone.

Still not convinced? Try this –  live music attracted more people than the AFL, Spring Carnival, A League, NBL, Netball, NRL, Cricket AND Australian Grand Prix combined, with 17.5 million people visiting gigs in 2017. *mind blown*

So, what are you waiting for? We know you’re itching to get all up in this musical utopia, and why wouldn’t you… they’ve got Flight Facilities, Angus & Julia Stone, Portugal. the Man, Vera Blue, Duke Dumont, Peking Duk, and many, MANY more. Plus, with that super sweet Splendour line-up having just dropped, we know there’s bound to be some killer talent teasing their side shows soon… looking at you, Kendrick…

Icing on the cake? A bed after the after party and $1 breakfast to help ease you in to the day after! Anything to help you live out your rock star dreams in style ;)!
